AGCO Imposes $100,000 Penalty on Apollo Entertainment

Apollo Entertainment Faces Heavy Penalty for Breaching Responsible Gambling Rules 3h465d

Apollo Entertainment, a prominent player in the iGaming industry, has found itself in hot water after violating a series of responsible gambling regulations. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) recently delivered a firm message by imposing a substantial CAD 100,000 fine (approximately $74,300 USD) on the operator.

Multiple Lapses in Responsible Gambling Obligations 40y1j

The AGCO’s decision stems from a range of infractions committed by Apollo Entertainment. The regulatory body emphasized that the operator’s actions directly contradicted the established Standards for Internet gaming set forth by the AGCO. Among the breaches listed, one glaring failure was the operator’s neglect to promptly intervene with high-risk players, even when a client lost over $2 million in Canadian dollars without any intervention.

Moreover, Apollo Entertainment’s approach to self-exclusion was deemed inadequate, lacking a comprehensive system to allow players to set effective gambling limits and exercise control over their wagering habits. This oversight further highlighted the operator’s disregard for responsible gambling practices.

While the AGCO sternly addressed the operator’s shortcomings, it also recognized Apollo Entertainment’s commitment to rectify the situation. The operator has exhibited a cooperative attitude throughout the process and is actively implementing substantial measures to enhance its responsible gambling protocols.

AGCO’s CEO and Registrar, Tom Mungham, emphasized the significance of safeguarding players and upholding a secure gambling environment. Mungham asserted that all licensed companies share the responsibility of proactive player monitoring and intervention to mitigate potential gambling-related harm.

Apollo Entertainment now stands at a crossroads, with the option to challenge the penalty through the License Appeal Tribunal, an independent entity separate from the AGCO. The outcome of this appeal process could potentially shape the operator’s future actions in the iGaming landscape.

Last month, AGCO further solidified its commitment to responsible gambling by appointing seasoned industry professional Dave Forestell as the new chairman. Forestell’s appointment underscores AGCO’s dedication to staying at the forefront of regulatory excellence in the evolving iGaming sector.
